About the company

Our client is a leading provider of specialty tax solutions, partnering with prominent accounting firms, associations, and Fortune 1000 companies nationwide. Their experienced team is dedicated to providing personalized guidance and navigating complex tax situations to ensure clients receive the best possible support. They offer diverse business solutions, tailoring our services to meet the unique needs of startups, SMBs, and large enterprises across various industries.

The Role

You will work directly with clients to understand their research and development (R&D) activities and prepare technical reports for R&D tax credit claims. These reports detail compliance with HMRC's R&D tax credit relief scheme and may involve considerations for early-stage intellectual property leading to Patent Box benefits. In some cases, you may also contribute to aspects of the financial report.

This is a hands-on role ideal for a candidate who thrives in a practitioner role and enjoys actively working with clients. You will be supported by a Project Manager for client engagement and a Quality and Review team.

Responsibilities

Conduct interviews with clients and stakeholders to understand their business activities.

Deep dive into client R&D activities to assess eligibility for tax relief.

Research relevant technology areas to grasp the current state of the art.

Identify project timeframes, resources deployed, tasks undertaken, and outcomes.

Confirm clients' financial risk exposure and treatment of qualifying costs within financial statements.

Gather relevant source data (technical specifications, payroll data, invoices) in collaboration with the Project Manager.

Conduct on-site client meetings and facility tours to identify additional compliance opportunities.

Author technical reports outlining client R&D activities.

Collaborate with other teams to finalize reports for submission.

Identify potential future client needs and opportunities, including intellectual property.

Qualifications

Technical expertise in one or more areas: software development, manufacturing, mechanical/electronic engineering, or information technology.

Experience in a professional services or consulting environment.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and process-driven skills.

Strong report writing and numeracy skills.

Comfort interpreting financial accounts.

Proficient data management skills.

Please note this is not an exhaustive list of duties and responsibilities. The role may evolve over time, and we will consult with the successful candidate regarding any changes
