We’re working with an exciting B2B SaaS business that is looking for a Senior Python / Software Engineer to join their growing engineering team.
This is a genuinely hands-on role with the opportunity to progress into a Tech Lead position, taking on greater technical ownership and eventually supporting the hiring and management of a small engineering team.
You’ll be working across backend development, APIs, automation, data processing, cloud infrastructure and web applications, with plenty of scope to influence how the technology evolves.
What you'll be doing
Design, develop and test Python-based applications
Build and maintain APIs and web applications using FastAPI
Develop command-line tools, automation and data-processing solutions
Design and maintain SQL and NoSQL databases
Work with high-volume and complex datasets
Support and maintain Linux-based servers
Containerise applications using Docker
Work with AWS infrastructure and cloud services
Follow TDD and strong software engineering practices
Contribute to technical direction and architecture
Help shape engineering processes as the team grows
Progress towards a Tech Lead position, including future mentoring and team management responsibilities
What we're looking for
You'll ideally have:
Strong commercial experience as a Senior Software Engineer / Senior Python Developer
Excellent Python development skills across backend, APIs, automation and data processing
Previous Tech Lead experience, or experience mentoring/managing a small development team
Strong Linux experience across development, testing and deployment
Experience building web applications with FastAPI, Django or Flask
Good knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript
Strong AWS experience
Experience working with SQL and/or NoSQL databases
Experience with REST APIs
Good understanding of Docker and containerisation
Experience with Git-based development workflows
A solid understanding of DevOps best practices
Ability to take high-level requirements and turn them into practical technical solutions
Comfortable working independently in a growing business
Nice to have
Experience with any of the following would be advantageous:
Pandas, NumPy, GeoPandas
Data visualisation tools such as D3, Folium or Plotly
HTMX, Jinja2, Bootstrap or Selenium
Terraform or CloudFormation
MongoDB or DuckDB
Podman
IAM
High-volume CSV, JSON or Parquet data
Experience working within an early-stage or growing SaaS environment

Stage 1 – Introductory call

An in-person session in Bristol including a deeper technical discussion and a practical coding exercise.
Stage 3 – Technical & Team Interview
A further in-person session covering your technical approach, the coding exercise and team fit.
